Unlike most smartphone makers, LG doesn't exactly keep the details about upcoming phones under wraps. Instead, the company slowly releases info on the devices' key features in the weeks ahead of the launch, and this is exactly how it's treating the upcoming V30 flagship.

The V30 is due to officially be unveiled August 31, ahead of the IFA trade show in Berlin. On Thursday, LG announced that the phone will come with a 6-inch, near bezel-less OLED screen with a 2,880x1,440 (that's an 18:9, or 2:1 ratio) pixel resolution.

While LG doesn't outright mention the name V30 in its press release, it does say the screen will be a part of its "next flagship smartphone," and then goes on to compare it with the last year's V20.

The LG G6 might be a more logical comparison, given that it was the first LG smartphone to feature an ultra-wide screen, but the comparison with the V20 is equally telling. According to the company, the upcoming phone will have a body that's smaller then the 5.7-inch V20, despite having a 6-inch screen. Its upper and lower bezels have been reduced by 20 and 50 percent compared to the V20, LG claims, and the screen on the new phone is so big that even the LG logo had to be moved from the bottom of the screen to the back of the device.

The fact that the V30 will have a plastic OLED screen is also important, as LG so far used mostly LCD screens. The new screen should have deeper blacks, more accurate colors and a faster response time. It also shouldn't suffer from burn-in issues that plague some OLED screens. And, thanks to the material's toughness and the Gorilla Glass 5 shielding it, it should be harder to damage.

LG points out that the plastic OLED screen can easily be curved, allowing for a more ergonomic design. On a promotional image the company has sent us, the bezels do appear to be quite thin, but the screen doesn't look as curved as it is on Samsung's Galaxy S8.

No other specs for the V30 have been revealed, but we're pretty sure LG will have a few more press releases like this one ahead of the actual launch.
