When Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) took the stage Tuesday night to celebrate his re-election, he was joined by his family, which included his campaign's real star: his rescue dog Franklin.。

While Franklin has been a part of Brown's social media presence for years, the pooch stepped things up on behalf of Brown in 2018 as the campaign's "Manager of Morale." He's become a breakout star thanks to frequent appearances throughout Brown's campaign, including recent ads. 。

Franklin's even been featured on some of Brown's campaign merch, like this coffee mug, and even got a shoutout from the Democrats' main Twitter account following Brown's win on Tuesday night.。Mashable Top StoriesStay connected with the hottest stories of the day and the latest entertainment news.Sign up for Mashable's Top Stories newsletter 。By signing up you agree to our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.。

While Brown has been mentioned as a possible 2020 Trump challenger in the past -- he denied it recently but certainly made a reference to 2020 during his victory speech Tuesday -- it remains to be seen if Franklin would be chosen as Brown's running mate.
