With the possible exception of that one where Britney Spears didn't really sing, there is no such thing as a bad Carpool Karaokeepisode.
SEE ALSO:15 times Carpool Karaoke was the perfect antidote to 20162017 was absolutely no exception. From Miley Cyrus licking postage stamps to Usher teaching James Corden his best dance moves, it was a strong year all round.
Ranking the 10 episodes below was no easy feat, but we've given it our best shot.
10. Christmas Carpool
It's a fun sing-along with a bonus James Corden/Harry Styles kiss thrown in for good measure, but Christmas Carpool obviously gets the bottom spot in this list because it's not really a properepisode (it's only a couple minutes long and there's hardly any talking, after all).
Still, if you're in the need for some festive cheer you could do a lot worse.
9. Foo Fighters
If we were going on pure, red-faced energy alone, this one would almost certainly be on top. The air drumming is a thing of beauty, and the guitar shop visit at the end is one of the greatest "out-of-car" scenes in the series.
The only reason it's not higher, though, is that six people is a lotto have in one car -- and for all the excitement, the episode does lack some that all-important conversational element.
8. Katy Perry
There are some amusing moments and some undoubtedly epic vocals, but Perry's episode comes further down the list simply because it doesn't feel like there's quite as much synergy between her and Corden on some of the songs.
Also way too much time is taken up talking about her rivalry with Taylor Swift.
7. Pink
This is a solid Carpool Karaokeepisode.
The singing is, of course, awesome, and the songs are broken up with some entertaining exchanges (Pink's story about Jon Bon Jovi's leather pants is certainly a memorable one, for instance).
The real highlight is clearly the ending, though, when James Corden gets stuck while attempting to sing upside-down.
6. Ed Sheeran
The episode gets off to a mildly odd start (Sheeran gets so distracted stroking Corden's nipple that he forgets to actually sing), but with the help of a Maltesers challenge it quickly finds its pace.
There are some ridiculously nice harmonies during "Thinking Out Loud" and "Castle on the Hill", and a spectacular story about Justin Bieber getting hit on the face with a golf club rounds things off nicely.
5. Kelly Clarkson
This one is all about those sweet, sweet vocals.
Clarkson is obviously a really awesome singer, and watching her belt out "Since U Been Gone", hit the high notes on "Because Of You" and even make a sentence about receipts sound glorious is like being a guest at a really exclusive private gig.
Also Corden really nails those harmonies.
4. Miley Cyrus
It's difficult to pick the best moment from Miley Cyrus' episode, as it's peppered with some impressively random conversations and truly belting songs.
If pressed, though, we'd have to say the highlight is either a) Corden casually dabbing stamps on Cyrus' tongue so he can complete some "correspondence", or b) the two of them having a conversation to see who can fake cry the best.
"This is so stupid," giggles Corden, after he's totally failed in his attempt to cry.
And he's right, it is. But it's also weirdly entertaining.
3. Sam Smith (ft. Fifth Harmony)
Corden's harmony game is always good, but it's particularly on point in this episode. It's clear that he really likes the songs he's singing, and you can tell he's put in some serious hours rehearsing pre-carpool. Even Sam Smith is impressed.
Not nearly as impressed as he is at the end of the episode though, when Fifth Harmony make a surprise guest appearance and the whole episode ramps up a notch.
2. Harry Styles
The singing is awesome, the anecdotes are amusing, but the real reason this episode is so much fun to watch is that you can immediately tell just how well Styles and Corden get on with each other.
There's no forced laughter, and no awkward silences; the bromance is real.
1. Usher
Carpool Karaokeis at its very best when the passenger looks like they're relaxed and enjoying themselves.
This is Usher all over. In the clip above he and Corden practice dancing together, clean Usher's Hollywood star together, and just generally look like they're having a really lovely time in each other's company.
The songs are good, the conversation flows easily, and they even stop the car at one point to help push a broken down stranger to safety.
This is Carpool Karaokeat its absolute peak.
