Chelsea Handler had two abortions when she was 16, and she's grateful she had access to a safe and legal abortion clinic, she wrote in an essay recently published by Playboy.

In her essay, the talk show host and comedian detailed how she had been impregnated twice in the same year by the same partner, noting that it cost $230 to pay Planned Parenthood.

"I’m grateful that I came to my senses and was able to get an abortion legally without risking my health or bankrupting myself or my family," she wrote.

"I’m 41 now. I don’t ever look back and think, God, I wish I’d had that baby."

Handler has been a vocal supporter of abortion rights, and first revealed she had an abortion at 16 in a 2011 New York Timesarticle. This latest essay reveals she had a second that year.

Handler's Playboywrite-up comes a day after a landmark victory for abortion rights activists in the U.S., when the Supreme Court ruled against a set of abortion restrictions in Texas.

The Texas laws, known as H.B. 2 and passed in 2013, require abortion clinics to obtain admitting privileges at a nearby hospital, and force them to build expensive ambulatory surgical centers.

Many abortion providers had pointed out that the laws were unnecessary and placed undue financial and practical pressure on them. Half of the state's facilities closed after the bill was implemented.

"Once you go forward in history, you don't go backward," Handler wrote in support of the Supreme Court decision, likening the lack of access to safe abortions to other practices that are now considered primitive, such as disallowing the right to vote, or slavery.

"It’s a wrap on men deciding what women can do with their bodies," she said.
