At a Television Critics Association panel on Jan 14., show creator Bruce Miller revealed that the writers foresaw Trump's MAGA campaign slogan before it became seared into our unwilling brains during the 2016 presidential campaign.

When asked about whether or not the show ever had to do rewrites because of the events in the news, Miller said: "We had a few things in Season 1. We said 'Make America Great Again' in a scene long before the primaries even started. So we had to change that line."。

It's a bittersweet irony that a show about America reverting to an oppressive totalitarian regime nailed our current president's xenophobic language. Ever since Trump first started popularizing the phrase in 2016, critics pointed out that it plays on people's nostalgia for the good ol' days -- when women knew their place was in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant.。

Miller went on to say that, in the upcoming Season 2, "we've already had things where we thought about them, shot them, then put them in episodes — only to see the exact same images [in the news] on the television." 。
