The article, published in November 2014, instantly drew widespread attention for its graphic depiction of a sexual assault committed by numerous people against a woman at a fraternity party. The story was lauded as a realistic portrayal of a problem that has only recently become visible a college campuses across the country.

In a statement,

Rolling Stone 。apologized to Eramo.。"In our desire to present this complicated issue from the perspective of a survivor, we overlooked reporting paths and made journalistic mistakes that we are committed to never making again," the statement read. "We deeply regret these missteps and sincerely apologize to anyone hurt by them, including Ms. Eramo."。
