Welcome to our 2019 Fall Movie Preview. All week long we're covering the films you need to know about as we head into the final months of the year, from indie gems to awards hopefuls to blockbuster smashes.

Our fall movie preview got off to a chilling start on Monday, but now it's time to loosen up and have some fun -- whatever that might mean for you.

Maybe you're into pitch-black comedy or criminal thrills. Or perhaps your idea of "fun" is getting swept up in drama and tension. Whatever your taste, the fall movie calendar has something for you.

Here's what to watch if you're in the mood for fun...

... and you love a good scam: Hustlers(Sept. 13)

We are living in a golden age of scammers, and Hustlersis based on one of the most riveting scam stories in recent memory: a group of strip club employees who bilked their Wall Street clients out of their not-so-hard-earned cash. As if that weren't enough to draw you in, the movie features an all-star cast including Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, Julia Stiles, Cardi B, andLizzo. Um, yes please.

... and you're prepared for things to get dark: The Day Shall Come(Sept. 27)

Director Chris Morris' last feature film, Four Lions, was a comedy about terrorist jihadis in England, just to give you an idea of how dark his sense of humor runs. The Day Shall Comefollows a convoluted scheme by the FBI (represented here by Anna Kendrick) to back a Miami preacher (Marchánt Davis) in his quixotic dream to overthrow the U.S. government, all so they can stop him, arrest him, and get the glory. It's funny because it's funny, but it hurts because it's true.

... and making fun of Nazis: Jojo Rabbit(Oct. 18)

Jojo Rabbitcenters on a young boy (Roman Griffin Davis) in World War II Germany, and his imaginary best friend, Adolf Hitler. It's the kind of high-wire satirical act it's hard to imagine anyone pulling off, especially at a time when real Nazis pop up in the headlines with dismaying regularity -- and yet if anyone can, it's probably writer-director Taika Waititi, who also plays Hitler.

... and you savor a big bowl of WTF: Last Christmas(Nov. 8)

Last Christmasstarts out looking ordinary enough -- quirky girl has meet-cute with handsome boy -- until you notice some of the weirder details at the edges. Like, what's this about her near-fatal illness? And who's this guy randomly popping up at all the right times? Are they ghosts? Angels? Just two aggressively adorkable city-dwellers? We do not know, but we bet you'll have fun trying to figure it out.

... and your idea of fun is a swooning romance: Queen & Slim (Nov. 27)

"Fun" probably isn't the first word that comes to mind when you see the Queen & Slimtrailer, and admittedly it's not as lighthearted as the other entries on this list. But epic romance and striking style offer their own pleasures, and Queen & Slimlooks to have those in spades. Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith play a couple on the run after a routine traffic stop gone fatally wrong in this debut feature by Melina Matsoukas, whose credits include Beyoncé's "Formation" video.

... and you enjoy Arthouse Adam Sandler: Uncut Gems(Dec. 13)

Every few years, Adam Sandler shows up in a "serious" movie to remind people he can act, really act. This year it's Uncut Gems, in which he plays a New York City jeweler who bets big on a potentially life-changing win. Sandler's not the only reason to keep this one on your radar, though -- it's the latest from the Josh and Benny Safdie, best known for the brilliantly grimy Robert Pattinson crime drama Good Time.
